In the development and application of alcohol detection equipment, material selection directly impacts detection accuracy, stability, and durability. Scientific and rational material selection is crucial for ensuring reliable test results, requiring comprehensive consideration of multiple factors, including chemical compatibility, mechanical properties, and environmental adaptability.

 

First, the sensor is the core component of alcohol detection, and its material directly influences detection sensitivity. Common semiconductor oxide sensors (such as SnO₂) are widely used due to their high selectivity for alcohol gas. However, their surfaces are susceptible to oil and sulfide contamination, necessitating the use of corrosion-resistant packaging materials (such as ceramic substrates) to extend their service life. Electrochemical sensors rely on precious metal electrodes (such as platinum and gold). These materials effectively catalyze alcohol oxidation reactions, but are relatively expensive, requiring coating technology to reduce costs while maintaining stability.

Second, the material of the sampling system must balance gas permeability and interference resistance. Porous polymers (such as PTFE) are often used to filter impurities, preventing dust or moisture from affecting test results. Optically transparent quartz glass is typically used as the gas chamber material because of its high temperature resistance and resistance to chemical reactions with alcohol, making it suitable for infrared spectroscopy detection. In addition, the housing material must meet portability and protective requirements. Engineering plastics (such as ABS or PC) are the mainstream choice due to their lightness, impact resistance, and reasonable cost. However, in extreme environments (such as high temperatures or strong acid and alkali conditions), metal materials such as stainless steel or titanium alloys can better ensure device reliability.

 

In summary, the material selection for alcohol detection must be based on the detection principle, balancing performance and cost. Through material science optimization, the overall performance of the device can be improved, providing accurate and reliable technical support for fields such as traffic safety and medical diagnosis.
