Infectious Disease Tests Types

Antigen-Based Rapid Tests

These tests identify proteins on the surface of pathogens. They are used to test for diseases like malaria, dengue fever, typhoid, etc,. The tests are very specific and give results very fast within 15 minutes.

Antibody-Based Rapid Tests

Antibody tests seek evidence of the body's immune reaction to a past or ongoing infection. They find application in screening for exposure to infectious agents such as HIV, Hepatitis B, and Hepatitis C. They are important for both individual diagnosis and population monitoring.

Combo or Multiplex Tests

Others are available to test for several pathogens or differentiate between two diseases that are clinically similar (e.g., differentiating malaria from typhoid). The combination kits improve diagnostic specificity in co-infection or confusing symptomatology.

Infectious Disease Tests Procedure

● Allow the test cassette and specimens to equilibrate to room temperature (15-30℃or 59-86℉) prior to testing.
● Bring the pouch to room temperature before opening it. Remove the test cassette from the sealed pouch and use it as soon as possible.
● Place the test cassette on a clean and level surface.
● For serum or plasma specimen: Hold the dropper vertically and transfer 3 drops of serum or plasma (approximately 75μl) and 1drop of buffer to the specimen pad of the test cassette, then start the timer. See illustration below.
● Wait for colored line(s) to appear. Interpret the test results in 15 minutes. Do not read results after 20 minutes.

Do not smoke, drink, or eat in areas where specimens or kits reagents are handled.

This package insert must be read completely before performing the test.

Bring all reagents to room temperature (15℃-30℃) before use.

Wear protective clothing such as laboratory coats, disposable gloves and eye protection when specimens are assayed.

The used tests, specimens and potentially contaminated materials should be discarded according to the local regulations.

Humidity and temperature can adversely affect results.
