During the test, participants should take a deep breath and exhale evenly and continuously into the tester's mouthpiece, typically for at least five seconds, until the tester indicates the test is complete. The tester automatically analyzes the alcohol concentration in the exhaled breath and displays the value.
If a blood test is used, it must be performed by a qualified medical professional. Before the test, participants should sit still for a moment to ensure stable blood circulation. Medical personnel use a sterile lancet to draw a suitable amount of venous blood, typically a few milliliters. The sample is then sent to a laboratory for determination of blood alcohol content via gas chromatography or enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA).
Regardless of the testing method used, the testing environment should be well ventilated to avoid interference. After the test, the time, location, subject information, and results must be recorded and signed by the relevant personnel.
